David Kessler’s 2nd Avenue Theatre  made its debut on September 14, 1911,  the first of the playhouses to open along the “Yiddish Rialto.”

The Billboard, September 22, 1906:
“What Broadway is to Manhattan and what State Street is to Chicago, Surf Avenue is to Coney Island. It is the main thoroughfare of the town and is Coney Island’s representative business street.”

On December 14, 2014, the 440 Gallery will host a book launch for The Brooklyn Theatre Index Volume III Coney Island Including Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach. It includes a short illustrated talk by the author. Copies will be available.
